Texas Ranger Samantha Payne opens up a 15-year-old missing person case, uncovering clues linking a local boy's death to wealthy family man Scott Briggs (Robert Duvall). When Briggs' estranged son Ben (James Franco) returns home during the investigation, Samantha becomes even more convinced that the Briggs family was involved and will stop at nothing to discover the truth about the boy's death. Briggs must find a way to either silence the law for good, or come to terms with his part in events 15 years ago.
