Homer Wells (Tobey Maguire) has lived his entire life within the walls of an orphanage. Though trained by the owner Dr Larch (Michael Caine) to be his successor, Homer, nonetheless, feels the need to strike out on his own and experience the world outside. His rebellion leads him to take up work at an apple orchard where he falls for the beautifully complex Candy (Charlize Theron) and is forced to learn powerful lessons about life, love and a true meaning of family.
