SEASON 1: Legendary Vegas comedian Deborah Vance (Jean Smart) is in danger of losing her residency. Meanwhile in L.A., young, entitled writer Ava is desperate for a job. Their mutual manager Jimmy, sets them up for a meeting, much to their chagrin. With her prime performance slots hanging in the balance, Deborah reluctantly begins working with Ava, testing their initial compatibility with a highly unconventional road trip. As they encounter unexpected bumps, Ava learns a messy lesson of resilience.

SEASON 2: Deborah Vance has blazed a trail through the male-dominated comedy scene for decades, hustling her way into a prime Las Vegas residency while simultaneously cultivating a successful brand of luxury items and endorsements. But after her residency is threatened, Deborah's manager Jimmy (Paul W. Downs) sets her up with another one of his clients, recently outcast television writer Ava (Hannah Einbinder), to help overhaul her material.
