After surviving a tragedy in the Civil War, Cal Wayne (Bobby Darin) returns home to find his former sweetheart (Emily Banks) engaged to marry the brother of the man he killed. He decides not to win her back and takes on the role of sheriff to appease his feelings of guilt. Soon enough, he is forced into a showdown with an outlaw (Leslie Nielsen) who has blazed a path of chaos everywhere he goes.
