SERIES 1: Doctor Martin Ellingham (Martin Clunes) is a celebrated London surgeon, who turned his back on city life and moves to a sleepy Cornish village to become the local doctor. Despite his surgical brilliance, Doc Martin has no interpersonal skills and his bedside manner soon starts to upset his new patients, causing havoc throughout the village! As the community becomes united in horror at their foul new GP, the good doctor soon finds he needs all the allies he can get as he tries to negotiate his way around village.

SERIES 2: Back to help and sometimes hinder, are Aunt Joan, Bert and Al Large, the local plumbers, local bobby PC Mark Mylow and school teacher Louisa Glasson, who's no clearer about her feeling for Doc Martin than she was when she first met him!

SERIES 3: It's not easy being the village GP in Portwenn as once again, Dr Martin Ellingham is the centre of calamity, drama and lingering gossip.

It seems the grumpiness is acute and chronic. The bad mood is no longer in remission. All the symptoms are there, the truculence, the tactlessness, the caustic take on everyone and everything.

SERIES 4: Doc Martin is starting to question what keeps him in Cornwall, it's certainly not his relentlessly annoying patients. Martin has realised that if he is ever to escape he must conquer his blood phobia for good.

SERIES 5: A new GP, Dr Di Dibbs and her husband Gavin have already moved into his old surgery. But Dr Ellingham begins to have serious doubts about the competence of Dr Dibbs and, after she collapses and leaves the village without a doctor, he becomes embroiled back to Portwenn life.

Martin also faces the loss of his Aunt Joan, and has to deal with a cantankerous relative who comes to live in Portwenn.

SERIES 6: Portwenn is buzzing with arrangements for the Doc and Louisa's wedding but will they finally tie the knot, or will the villagers have to put the confetti back in the box?

Even on his own wedding day, Dr Martin Ellingham is all scowls. Then following a calamitous honeymoon, he and Louisa must learn to live together, raise a child and manage two careers. It's a big adjustment for both, especially Martin, who's unaccustomed to clutter and noise.

Factor in the Doc's usual string of batty patients; including a hypochondriac, a hoarder, two elderly tattoo artists and a bumbling constable with a string of self-inflicting injuries and Martin is soon more ill-tempered than ever. Plus, his crippling blood phobia is back and his ghastly mother picks a bad time to show up at the Ellingham's door. With much at stake, Martin turns for advice to his aunt Ruth, perhaps the sanest person in Portwenn--but it may already be too late.

SERIES 7: Doc Martin's bad manners and unusual ways continue to cause tension among the locals in the picturesque Cornish village of Portwenn. In the wake of their tumultuous time, Martin tries to fix his marriage after Louisa decides she needs some time away. Al Large is trying to set up and run his new Bed and Breakfast. Bert tries his hand at making whisky with some surprising results. Aunt Ruth suffers from a health scare, which even she cannot blithely ignore. And PC Penhale is put in charge of his very own police issue Taser.

SERIES 8: After successfully rekindling their relationship in spite of, rather than because of, their couples therapy, Louisa and Martin start living together again in the surgery. Everything looks like it could be on an even keel for them at long last. Meanwhile, Portwenn is abuzz with activity for the preparation of a wedding...between Janice and Penhale.

SERIES 9: All is not well with Doc Martin. With his career still under scrutiny, due to his blood phobia, Dr Rebecca Hedden from the General Medical Council arrives to assess his bedside manner and determine if he is still fit to practise.

Louisa, having resigned as head teacher at Portwenn School, is throwing herself into her new career as a child and adolescent counsellor, as well as spending more time with their son James Henry. When Louisa notices James is finding it hard to socialise at nursery, she starts wondering whether a little brother or sister would help. But with Martin having to jump through hoops to save his career and Louisa starting her new role the timing might not be the best.

Meanwhile Al and Bert are making a success of running the Crab and Lobster, leaving Morwenna feeling a little neglected; Mrs Tishell has a new lease of life following Clive's death and decides to try dating again; and Penhale's authority is challenged when his predecessor returns. However, could an accidental proposal have wedding bells ringing in the village of Portwenn?

SERIES 10: Back in Portwenn, a year has passed and Doctor Martin Ellingham still isn't practicing as a doctor. But the big change is the arrival of the Ellingham's new daughter, Mary Elizabeth, who is now 4 months old. Martin has fully embraced the role of househusband: his fastidiousness in the role is annoying at times for Louisa. Louisa is now seeing her therapy clients out of Martin's consulting room, but before long she is back in the phlebotomy room, as a medical emergency and both Louisa and Ruth's guidance, helps Martin acknowledge that he really does want to be a doctor again. He sets about getting his license back.

With Martin now practicing again, Mrs Tishell can put her 'Bring Back Our Doctor' campaign to rest, believing she was instrumental in getting the Doc back. She now fancies spending her spare time on Radio Portwenn, as a part-time radio DJ. This isn't the only new role in the village--Martin has hired a local boy, Max, as Portwenn Surgery receptionist, given Morwenna has moved on and is making her way up the corporate ladder.

Morwenna ends up working with the Doc after the owner of a house she is trying to sell collapses. She realises more money doesn't guarantee happiness and being an Estate Agent goes against her moral compass; she cares too much for people. But does the Doc want her back? Morwenna isn't the only one making a success of herself: Al is too, as he now has his own mobile food truck business that does a roaring trade at local events and beaches. On the other hand, though, things aren't looking great for Bert, after Caitlin kicks him out, citing his laziness as one of the reasons. Al feels the need to help the situation, fearing his dad will end up permanently moving in and Morwenna permanently moving out! But with the help of Morwenna, Al finds Bert a local caravan site he can lease--a home and job all rolled into one.
