Her Hollywood musicals were a hit with the critics and the public alike and she was adored by countless millions of fans. The world reeled when, in 1948, Deanna suddenly announced that she was to retire from film-making at the age of just 27 and her name has since passed into Hollywood legend. THE AMAZING MRS. HOLLIDAY (1943): Missionary Ruth Kirke (Deanna Durbin) passes herself off as rich widow, Mrs Holliday, in order to smuggle a group of Chinese orphans into the US with the help of sympathetic ships Steward Barry Fitzgerald. Complications arise when she uses the Holliday mansion to house the children and falls in love with her late husband's grandson (Edmond OBrien). And even more so when Mr Holliday himself returns from the dead!

HIS BUTLER'S SISTER (1943): When aspiring singer Ann Carter (Deanna Durbin) decides to visit her "businessman" brother (Pat O'Brien) in New York she is surprised to find he is actually the butler to well-known composer Charles Gerard (Franchot Tone). Much to his relief she appears delighted at his deception. Then he realises that she sees his boss as a possible means to giving her career a boost.

LADY ON A TRAIN (1945): Nikki Collins, from the train window witnesses a man being murdered. When the police don't believe her, she decides to turn detective and seeks help from her favourite mystery writer Wayne Morgan (David Bruce). The dead man turns out to be a wealthy ship-building magnate and when Nikki and Wayne head for the family mansion to search for clues she soon finds herself in a dangerous situation--mistaken for the nightclub singer Margo Martin, the old man's mistress to whom he has left his fortune.

BECAUSE OF HIM (1946): When Kim Walker (Deanna Durbin) obtains an autograph from great actor John Sheridan (Charles Laughton) she tries to use it to secure a role in the play in which he is about to star. But playwright Paul Taylor (Franchot Tone) doesn't want her. Can Kim get Sheridan on her side and will Paul weaken when he realises she's also fallen in love with him?

I'LL BE YOURS (1947): Small town girl Louise Ginglebusher is working as an usherette in a New York theatre. She makes friends with the waiter (William Bendix) at her local diner who in turn introduces her to a young lawyer, George Prescott (Tom Drake). At a swank party where she is to sing, she attracts the attention of a wealthy tycoon (Adolph Menjou). To avoid his advances she makes up a white lie claiming she's married to Prescott. This leads to many amusing complications before true love surfaces to save the day.

SOMETHING IN THE WIND (1947): When a wealthy member of the Read family passes away, he bequeaths part of his fortune to his mistress, one Mary Collins. Donald Read (John Dall) aided by his cousin Charlie (Donald O'Connor) wants to buy her off to avoid a family scandal. However, they mistake young Mary for her aunt and kidnap her from the radio station. But she turns the tables on them by demanding a settlement of $1,000,000.

UP IN CENTRAL PARK (1948): Irish immigrant Rosie Moore's illiterate father (Albert Sharpe) gets the job of superintendent of Central Park, because corrupt Boss Tweed (Vincent Price), the man running the city, thinks she may have overheard him planning criminal activity. With Rosie's help, earnest young reporter John Matthews (Dick Haymes) manages to expose Tweeds Tammany Hall corruption.

FOR THE LOVE OF MARY (1948): Mary Peppertree is a White House switchboard operator with three keen suitors. When the United States President cures her of a fit of hiccoughs he also becomes involved in sorting out her love life!
