Peggy is recovering from a nervous breakdown when she is attacked by an unseen assailant. As she struggles to break free, her attacker's artificial arm comes loose and Peggy blacks out in sheer terror. When Peggy and her new husband Robert spend their honeymoon at the deserted country school where Robert is a teacher they discover it is deserted except for headmaster Michael and his wife Molly.

As she returns to the cottage one evening, Peggy is once more attacked by a man with one arm and when Robert is sent to London on behalf of the headmaster, Peggy is left all alone to face her fears...
